Here is an explanation of the various Swim Team events that you will find in the Calendar.
Time Trials (All Swimmers)
Time Trials is the first meet of the season on June 13th. This fun meet is held at our home pool and is only for Vienna Woods swimmers. Each swimmer will compete in all strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) that they can complete legally. Some younger swimmers do not have a legal swim in all four strokes yet, and the coaches will identify which strokes they should try. Time Trials establishes a swimmer’s baseline seed time in each stroke.
A Meet Schedule (Selected Swimmers)
Saturday Dual Meets are referred to as “A Meets.” They start at 9:00 am, and are usually are over by 12:00 pm. Swimmers are selected for these meets by the coaches primarily based on their times.

Coaches will notify selected swimmers at practice before each “A Meet” of the events they qualify to swim. An email from your Team Reps is also sent to the parents on Thursday evening notifying everyone of who will be participating and any important event details. Swimmers and the events they swim may change from week to week.
Swim Team members are expected to swim in an A-meet when they are selected. If your child will be unavailable to swim, please email the Team Reps at [email protected] and let the coaches know immediately.
For AWAY “A meets,” we meet at Vienna Woods pool and then carpool/caravan to our host location as a team.
Individual events in dual meets are scored:
- 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 1 point for 3rd
Relays in dual meets are scored:
- 5 points for 1st place, 0 points for 2nd
B Meet Schedule (All Swimmers)
Monday Developmental Meets are referred to as “B meets.” These meets start at 6:00 pm and are usually over around 9:00 pm. These meets are not scored and are open to all members of the team. Parents are responsible for signing their swimmers up for events through Swimtopia by midnight on Saturday before each meet. Swimmers are eligible to compete in two individual events at Monday meets, but they are unable to receive a ribbon if they received one the previous Saturday meet.

NVSL-Run Meets (Selected Swimmers)
The NVSL runs four large meets each year - two just for the teams in our division and two for the entire league.
Divisional Relays - July 8 @ Lee Graham - Four-swimmer relay teams for each age group will compete in a freestyle relay and a medley relay against the other five teams in our division. Swimmers are chosen for this meet by the coaches based primarily on best times.
All Star Relays - July 15 @ SHBR - The top 18 relay teams by time in each event from all 17 Divisional Relay meets are selected to swim in this league-wide meet. **Note that All Star Relays has been moved to a morning meet this year in an attempt to avoid weather delays and cancellations due to afternoon storms.
Divisionals - July 25 @ Fox Hunt - Two swimmers in each individual event are selected to compete in a meet against the other top swimmers from our division in this big (but unscored) meet.
Individual All Stars - August 1 @ Vienna Woods - The top 18 swimmers in each event from all 17 Divisional meets are selected to swim in this league-wide meet. **This year, Individual All Stars will be hosted as Vienna Woods and we will need as much volunteer help as we can get!
Social Events and Pep Rallies (All Swimmers)
Every Friday night before an A meet, we host a pep rally where swimmers get to participate in a fun activity with the team. Additionally, we host numerous social events throughout the year, including a bagel breakfast, a progressive dinner for swimmers over 13, and an end-of-the-year banquet at the Moose Lodge.
